Reset
A reset of your remote control is required if you want to put a new Sky Q device into operation, the settings of your Sky Q device have been reset or if you want to control a new TV set or a new sound system with your remote control.
How to reset your Sky Q remote control:
1. Press and hold buttons 7 and 9 on your remote control until the status LED flashes briefly four times.
2. The remote control is ready for operation again after resetting when the red LED above the Sky logo lights up.
3. After resetting, you need to set up the remote control again. You can find instructions for this under "Connect remote control | Sky Q Receiver" or "Set up remote control of the Sky Q IPTV Box".
Connecting the remote control failed
If the connection of the remote control fails and the message "Connecting the Sky Q remote control failed [14100]" appears, the following steps can help to fix the problem.
Note: Please check after each step if the problem is fixed.
Checking the line of sight:
Make sure that the line of sight between the Sky Q remote control and your Sky device is not interrupted. Turn off or remove other Sky Q receivers or Sky Q Mini devices in the immediate vicinity to avoid interference.
Check batteries and test remote control:
If your Sky device does not respond to the Sky Q remote control or reacts only to a limited extent, replace the batteries first. Use new batteries in pairs and do not use a combination of old and new batteries.
Changing batteries:
1. Open the battery compartment on the back of the remote control.
2. Insert new batteries with correct polarity (+/-).
3. Replace the cover.
Testing the remote control:
1. Press the "?" on the Sky Q remote control and check if the light indicator is flashing.
2. Point the remote control to the front of the Sky device and press the "Home" button to see if the TV guide appears.
Problems with individual buttons of the Sky Q remote control?

Which keys cause problems? Note that the colored buttons (except recording) are usually not occupied, unless an image overlay appears with specific instructions.
For example, if the voice button doesn't work or you can't control the volume via the remote control, reconfiguration might help.
Adjusting the volume:
If the volume buttons do not work, it may be necessary to re-set up the remote control to control your TV or audio system.
Controlling the TV:
Press Home > My Sky Q > Settings > Setup > Remote Control > Control your TV > OK.
You can use a specific setup code or use the automatic search.
Alternative:
Hold down buttons 2 and 8 for about 3 seconds (without the voice button) and enter the 4-digit code of your TV model.
For voice key: Press 1 and 3, search for the TV model and confirm.
Controlling the audio system:
Press Home > My Sky Q > Settings > Setup > Remote Control > Control Audio System > OK.
Use a specific code or the search function.
Alternative:
Hold down buttons 2 and 8 for about 3 seconds (without the voice button) and enter the 4-digit code of the audio system.
For voice key: Press 1 and 3, search for the TV model and confirm. After that, you can also set up the audio system.
If you then hold down the stand-by button, you turn on/off either your TV (long press) or your Sky Q Receiver (short press). You can also control the volume.
Language key:
If the voice button of your Sky Q voice remote does not work properly, you can still control your Sky Q Receiver using the other buttons. Here you will find solutions to restore voice control.
Update the software version of the Sky Q Receiver:
1. Switch to any Sky channel in the live picture (e.g. Sky One HD).
2. Press the Home button on your Sky Q voice remote and navigate to My Sky Q > Settings > System Info > Software Version.
3. Check if the software version is older than the latest one, as stated in our article "Current software versions of Sky".
4. Use the right arrow key to go to Installation and confirm the software download.
5. Your receiver will download the latest software. Please note not to change the transmitter (however, you can watch recordings and on-demand content during this time) and not to disconnect the Sky Q Receiver from the power or the Internet.
6. The download can take up to 90 minutes. You can check the status of the download under My Sky Q > Settings > System Info. The message "Software update successful" appears as soon as the download is complete.
7. Then switch your Sky Q Receiver to standby mode, wait a moment and then switch the receiver on again to install the new software version.

Connecting the Sky Q voice remote control to the Sky Q Receiver
In order to ensure the optimal use of your Sky Q voice remote control via Bluetooth, it is necessary to first connect it to your Sky Q receiver. Here we explain step by step how this works.
While the TV picture is playing, press buttons 1 and 3 on your Sky Q voice remote simultaneously for about 10 seconds.
The message that the remote control is successfully connected to your receiver will appear on the screen of your TV.
After the connection, additional options are available to you to set up your remote control for controlling your TV or audio system as well.
Make sure that the correct remote control is used for your receiver
After you have successfully connected your Sky Q voice remote control to your Sky Q Receiver, this remote control is connected exclusively to this receiver via Bluetooth. Therefore, only this remote control can be used to control your receiver. The only functions that can also be used on other Sky Q receivers are the on/stand-by button and the Sky button.
Check the batteries of the Sky Q remote control
To make sure that your Sky Q remote control is working properly, first check the batteries. Open the battery compartment on the back of the remote control, insert new batteries and pay attention to the correct polarity (+/-). After installing the new batteries, put the cover back in place. Press the button on the remote control ? to check whether the light indicator is flashing and thus the remote control is supplied with battery power.
LED lights:
Check the function of the Home button by pressing it and make sure that the Sky Q homescreen appears. When the menu appears, the error is fixed, and voice control can be used as usual.
If your receiver does not respond to the Home button, proceed to the next step and reset your Sky Q voice remote control.
Sky Q Reset voice remote control
A reset of your remote control is necessary if you start up a new Sky Q device, have reset the settings of your Sky Q device or want to control a new TV or a new sound system with your voice remote control. To do this, press and hold buttons 7 and 9 on your voice remote control until the status LED flashes briefly four times. When your Sky Q Receiver stops responding:
1. Unplug the receiver from the wall outlet to de-energize the receiver. However, do not pull the blue plug out of the Sky Q Receiver to avoid damage to the device.
2. Wait about 10 seconds before plugging the power plug back into the socket.
3. The device starts into standby or energy-saving mode.
4. After no more fades are displayed (black screen), turn on your Sky device again with the Home button.
The result of the diagnosis
If the diagnostic steps show that the remote control of your Sky device needs to be replaced, you can order this by clicking on "Next" and confirm that all diagnostic steps have been performed. If not, or in case of uncertainty, you can repeat the diagnosis.
